Katikati: Ongare Point

Ongare Point is a five minute drive off State Highway 2 and just a few minutes north of Katikati. The road is no exit, like most of the 'point' roads to the east of the main road. Picturesque seaside holiday homes and permanent houses jostle for position on a small sandy beach. Boaties launch fourteen footers here at high tide, young families play in the safe waters, couples enjoy the coastal walk to Kauri Point. It's a favourite place for kayers too.

Ongare Point is a great place to park your car and enjoy a quiet coastal walk. Head along the walkway up to Kauri Point.

There's a playground, barbecue tables under shady trees and an unrestricted view of the northern Tauranga Harbour. There are rooms and baches and houses available to rent. No shops. No icecream trucks. No footpaths. It's great.

To get to Ongare Point travel north out of Katikati for three kilometres, turn right onto Kauri Point Road. After another three kilometres turn left at the intersection into Ongare Point Road. Once you get into the village turn right to get down to the beach.
