| Katikati Rugby Club was established on 28 June 1880. It is one of only three clubs in New Zealand with a history of this length, and is a founder club of both the Thames Valley and Bay of Plenty rugby unions.
The club celebrated its 130 years at a formal celebration on Saturday July 3 2010, but the giant rugby ball will remain in its prominent place in Diggelmann Park on the main street until after the 2011 Rugby World Cup. For more information contact katikatirugby@yahoo.com
Even if rugby isn't your thing, make sure you stop and look at the aerial photos of the district that surround the display.
The club says that the display is not just a celebration of sport, but also a recognition of the early settlers of Katikati.
